Grand Canyon National Park was established in 1919, and It was the 17th national park to be established. The Grand Canyon is visited by nearly 5 million people each year! The park covers an area of 1,218,375 acres, and it is 277 miles in length. At its widest point, the Grand Canyon stretches 18 miles across, and at its deepest point, it is over 6,000 feet deep! The schist found at the bottom of the canyon is over two billion years old and American Indians have been living in the Grand Canyon for thousands of years.
